Exhibition Opening: 04.07.
Join us on a unique journey through time and sea with the exhibition by Nenad Bojmić, a renowned boat model maker from Zagreb. This fascinating exhibition on wooden ships will provide you with an insight into the rich maritime heritage of the broader Adriatic area, from larger vessels like loggers and peligs, through braceras, leuts, gajetas, to smaller pasara and “lađa” boats.
About the Artist
Born in 1955 in Ogulin, Nenad Bojmić has dedicated over 40 years of his life to the art of boat modeling. His passion and precision have earned him numerous awards at national and international competitions. Bojmić’s models, displayed in prominent museums such as the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb and the Maritime Museum in Split, are renowned for their exceptional detail and faithful representation of historical vessels. His unique affinity for miniatures and his hand-carved olive wood figures imbue his models with a special life and soul.
Overview of the Boats and Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition encompasses a variety of wooden boats typical of our small coastal navigation throughout history – from the smallest “pasara” measuring 4 meters to the majestic “loger” measuring 22 meters. These boats are crafted according to strict traditional shipbuilding rules and based on blueprints. In the words of the artist, these blueprints are crucial for preserving information about wooden boats, some of which are still seen at regattas, perhaps the last gatherings of boats with a soul. Visitors will have the opportunity to see boats that once were the heart of coastal life and trade, now representing a precious cultural heritage.
