Gajeta Mare was built in 1971 by shipbuilder Čedomir Burtina for Fabijan Šandrić. Gajeta was built for trips to family properties in Kornati, Modrave and surrounding islets and for fishing.
In 2010, shipbuilder Jadranko Bosna did a reconstruction of the boat during which 50 per cent of the original structure was replaced. In the same year it changed its owner, the new one being Petar Šandrić, a grandson of the first owner.
On two occasions gajeta Mare was filmed for television shows in some fishing scenes.
