The Coordination of Associations for the Preservation and Revitalization of Maritime and Shipbuilding Heritage of Northern Dalmatia is an initiative that brings together the following organizations from the Šibenik-Knin and Zadar counties: Ecological Association Šepurine (Prvić Šepurine), Association Južnje strane (Jezera), St. Andrew’s Association (Tisno), Betina Gajeta 1740 Association (Betina), Latin Sail Association (Murter), Frkata Association (Ugrinić), and Kanata Association (Zadar).
These associations are the organizers of events and regattas held with the aim of preserving traditional sailing and shipbuilding skills: Burtiž (Prvić Šepurine), Lantina (Jezera), Idrom po korentu (Tisno), Regatta for the Soul and Body (Betina), Days of the Latin Sail (Murter), Đir po konalu (Ugrinić), and Zadar na idra (Zadar). Representatives of these associations, along with the participation of the director of the Museum of Betina Wooden Shipbuilding, agreed on the following rules in their area of activity at a meeting held in Betina on May 18, 2023, supported by the sports association YC Zlarin, the organizer of the Latin Sail Regatta Latinskim idrom na kureja. Six out of the seven mentioned associations are bearers of the intangible cultural heritage “Art of Sailing with Latin and Lug Sails along the Croatian Coast” (decision of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia dated November 15, 2022). The rules were supplemented at a meeting held in Murter on January 14, 2024.
The rules define the concept of a traditional wooden boat, its technical characteristics, types of traditional boats, features of rigging and other equipment. Classes of wooden boats in regattas, propulsion, and general participation conditions in traditional vessel regattas, as well as conditions for organizers with sailing instructions, are defined.
